Britain has canceled a 137-year-old tradition because of a noise complaint

Due to a single complaint, the clock on the tower of the town hall in Birkenhead in the UK will sound only once an hour instead of the previous tempo once every 15 minutes. This was reported by the Telegraph newspaper on November 28.
The decision was made after a resident complained about the volume and frequency of the tower clock, the problem was taken up by the local authorities. As a result, it was confirmed that the sound of the clock exceeded the legal noise level.
"The clock on the tower stopped chiming every 15 minutes after a single complaint about the noise level. Birkenhead Town Hall bells will now ring every hour, ending a 137-year tradition," the paper wrote.
According to the newspaper, some residents of the town opposed the decision to reduce the mechanism's operation, claiming they live by the traditional ringing of the clock.
Birkenhead Town Hall was built back in 1887, designed by local architect Charles Ellison.
Earlier on November 27, prisoners in the UK were subjected to an invasion of poisonous spiders and rats. According to a report on the state of prisons in England and Wales, vermin infestation is an acute problem.
