On November 27, a court in Chelyabinsk appointed Vladimir Cheskidov, convicted of kidnapping two people and murder, compulsory treatment. He held captive and raped two girls for years, one of whom he eventually killed. He committed the crimes in front of the mother, with whom he lived in the same house. How investigated a high-profile case - in the material "Izvestia".

For what Cheskidov was convicted

- 53-year-old Vladimir Ceskidov was detained in July 2023 in the village of Smolino, Chelyabinsk region, where he lived. The law enforcers searched his house after a girl turned to the police, claiming that he had held her captive for 14 years. Sex toys were found in the house, as well as homemade wooden devices for holding a person immobile. The man was charged with kidnapping, murder, rape and violent acts of a sexual nature (Articles 126, 105, 131 and 132 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

- A forensic sexological and psychiatric examination conducted in Moscow found that the accused suffers from a mental illness. Because of this, he "did not realize the actual nature and public danger of his actions, as well as could not lead them," reported in the SCR.

- Cheskidov was found guilty under all articles and sent to compulsory indefinite treatment, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation said. It is not specified in which institution he will be kept.

- Earlier Cheskidov had already been tried. He was charged with an article for robbery. At present, the conviction is extinguished: he served four years in the colony. He is also officially married, but has not lived with his wife for a long time.

- Charges of kidnapping were also brought against the mother of the maniac - Valentina Ceskidova, who lived with her son. According to the investigation, she not only did not interfere with what was happening in the house, but also covered up the criminal. She categorically denied her guilt: according to her, the victim lived with them voluntarily. She was not arrested, although she participated in the trials as a defendant. The court sent the woman for compulsory psychiatric evaluation: she spent a month in the hospital. After the end of the investigative actions, she left Smolino.

Victims of the "Chelyabinsk maniac"

- The first victim of Vladimir Cheskidov was 19-year-old Ekaterina, with whom he met in 2009 at the train station near Smolino. The man invited her to his house, where he informed her that she was now his prisoner.

- The victim was kept in a separate room with bars on the windows. Cheskidov regularly raped and beat her. She was also obliged to help his mother with household chores. When other people came to the house, her mouth was taped shut. The victim spent 14 years in such conditions. During this time, she was only allowed outside a few times, but was not allowed to go outside the property.

- Between 2010 and 2011, there was another abducted girl in the house who was also abused by Cheskidov. She was killed. In a video published by the SCR, Ekaterina stated that the man forced her to help hide the remains. Cheskidov tried to burn and bury them in the yard, but failed and later hid them in the cellar.

- On July 30, 2023, Cheskidov's surviving captive escaped. At that time, the man was on a bender, against the background of which his mental illness worsened. He began to behave aggressively, his mother called an ambulance, and Cheskidov was taken to the hospital. The door to the room where Ekaterina lived, he did not close for the first time. The girl left the house and got in touch with her sister, who had been searching for her for a long time. They contacted the law enforcement authorities, after which a criminal case was initiated.
