The Central Bank launched a vote for the symbol on the back of Br1 thousand banknote.

November 29, the Central Bank of Russia (CBR) launched a popular vote for the symbol for the reverse side of the Br1,000 banknote, which is dedicated to the Volga Federal District.

The official website of the regulator reports that the vote includes 25 cultural and historical landmarks from different regions of the Volga region. Among the options are the Palace of Farmers in Kazan, the monument to the Protecting Mother in Cheboksary, the Pushkin Museum-Reserve in Boldino, the Mordovian Republican Museum of Fine Arts named after S.D. Erizi in Saransk, and the Saratov highway bridge over the Volga.

The Central Bank specifies that each participant can vote for only one object. Symbols, which will get the largest number of votes, will be used in the development of the composition of the banknote. The final design will be approved by the Board of Directors of the Bank of Russia.

Voting will end on December 12 at 12:00 Moscow time.

The day before, the Central Bank presented variants of images for the bill of Br1 thousand. The issue of the bill with the previous design was suspended after complaints about the image of the palace church in the Kazan Kremlin without a cross. Central Bank head Elvira Nabiullina noted that the symbols on the bill "should unite, not generate disputes."

In October 2023, the Central Bank presented an updated banknote of Br1 thousand, but very quickly withdrew it, as dissatisfaction was caused by the design of the bill. On the reverse side was depicted the palace church in the Kazan Kremlin, which in Soviet times began to be used not for religious purposes and the cross was removed from it. Next to it is the tower of Syuyumbike in the Kazan Kremlin, which is crowned by a crescent moon.

In July this year, head of Goznak Arkady Trachuk said in an interview with "Izvestia" at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2024) that the work on variants of the banknote of Br1 thousand continues. He noted that the previous unsuccessful experience of choosing a design for the banknote will be taken into account. At the same time, he proposed to return to the practice of public discussion of the choice of the symbol on the updated banknotes.
