The Russian government has extended until the end of 2026 the food embargo, which was imposed on countries that resorted to anti-Russian sanctions. This was reported by TASS on Friday, November 29, with reference to the decree.

The document was signed on November 28.

It is specified that its action extended to New Zealand. Before that, the list of countries falling under the embargo included Canada, the USA, the European Union (EU) states, Iceland, Australia, Albania, Montenegro, Liechtenstein, the UK, Ukraine and Norway.

The import ban applies to sausages, fish, meat, seafood and dairy products.

Russian President Vladimir Putin extended the food embargo from Western countries imposed in 2014 for two years on September 18. The decree noted that the restriction will be in effect until December 31, 2026.

Prior to that, on September 15, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that decisions to extend the food embargo spur import substitution. He pointed out that Russia has now fully replaced the sanctions range with its own products.
