A therapist has spoken out about the dangers of persimmons for some people

Persimmons with blood glucose disorders are contraindicated. In addition, such a product with a high content of tannins should not be eaten by people with mucous membrane diseases, therapist Oksana Pivovarova, professor of the Department of Therapy at the Medical Faculty of the State University of Education, told Izvestia on November 30.
"In persimmons, especially unripe, there are tannins - substances that regulate fat metabolism and have tannin properties. In the mouth, they interact with proteins, which makes it seem to us that this berry "astringent". Even in a very ripe or frozen persimmon tannins are still present," she said.
According to her, the use of products with a high content of tannins is contraindicated in diseases of mucous membranes: whether it is lesions of the mucous membranes of the oral cavity, dry mucous membranes of the pharynx or diseases associated with lesions of the mucous membranes of the gastrointestinal tract. Tannins additionally irritate the already thinned and damaged mucous membrane, and this leads to the formation of even more ulcer or wound defect.
In addition, persimmon is contraindicated in patients with blood glucose disorders, as blood sugar levels rise sharply after its intake. This entails damage to the body's blood vessels and nerve fibers and can lead, among other things, to the development of visual impairment, Pivovarova added.
"Overeating persimmons can lead to thickening of fecal masses, but no intestinal obstruction can develop in this case. Obstruction, as well as the occurrence of lumps in the stomach, is associated only with damage to the nerve fibers of the intestine and violation of peristalsis of the gastrointestinal tract, but in no way with the stagnation of large amounts of persimmon fibers," - said the doctor.
Earlier, on November 15, urologist andrologist of the reproductive health center "SM-Clinica" Artur Bogatyrev told "Izvestia" that people with kidney disease should avoid products containing large amounts of oxalates, such as spinach, nuts, French fries, chips, beets, sorrel, bran and chocolate. They should also limit their intake of foods high in potassium, particularly avocados.
