- Tourists of the liner stranded on the way to Antarctica will be reimbursed 50% of the cost of the cruise

Natalia Litvinova, a passenger of the Swan Hellenic Diana liner that got stuck on its way to Antarctica, told Izvestia on Friday, November 29, that the company offered a refund of 50% of the cost of the tour.
"The company sent a proposal after more than 24 hours that they offer us a generous reimbursement of 50% of the cost of the cruise or 65% if we book another cruise with them," the woman shared.
According to Natalia, such conditions seemed unfair to the passengers, because out of 15 promised islands they visited only three. She called the situation a mockery, because she and many other tourists had been saving money for the tour for several years. Reimbursement of $3 thousand, when on average such a tour costs $10 thousand, seemed impertinence to some passengers, which caused them to go on hunger strike.
At the same time "RIA Novosti" in the head office of the company in Cyprus said that the situation will be solved by lawyers and customer service department, which will determine the amount of compensation that complies with European law.
Earlier in the day, British newspaper The Times reported that passengers of the SH Diana liner heading to Antarctica, including Russians, went on hunger strike due to engine failure. The captain of the ship said the reason for the refusal to sail to Antarctica was propeller failure.
The passenger said that the captain of the ship did not inform the Russian Embassy that the Russian tourists had started a hunger strike in protest. She noted that they were also joined by citizens from Great Britain and China.
