In Primorsky Krai a case was initiated against a local resident for illegal trafficking of wild ginseng roots. This was reported in the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in Primorsky Krai on November 29.
According to the agency, a 37-year-old man illegally extracted eight roots of wild ginseng, after which he posted an announcement about their sale on the page of one of the messengers.
"The defendant committed a crime under Part 3 of Article 260.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal extraction, collection, acquisition, purchase, storage, transportation, forwarding or sale of plants listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation")," the IC said in a statement in its Telegram channel.
The punishment for the committed crime is imprisonment for six years.
The agency specified that the man by his actions caused harm to objects of plant life, which are listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation and their habitat.
Since October 12, 2023 in Russia introduced criminal liability for the illegal collection of especially valuable plants and mushrooms, which are listed in the Red Book. This is a new article of the Criminal Code 260.1, the maximum penalty for which is up to nine years of imprisonment with a fine of up to 3 million rubles.
