In Uganda, 15 people killed and at least a hundred missing due to landslide

In eastern Uganda, 15 people are dead and at least 100 are missing after a landslide triggered by heavy rains buried dozens of houses in several villages. This was reported by Reuters on Thursday, November 28.
According to the Uganda Red Cross Society, at least 40 households were completely covered with earth, while others suffered partial damage.
Police said 113 people were missing and that impassable roads were preventing vehicles, including ambulances, from carrying out rescue operations.
The area where the landslide occurred is mountainous and has experienced similar natural disasters in the past, including an avalanche in 2010 that killed at least 80 people.
In July, a landslide came down in the hilly areas of Wayanad district in the Indian state of Kerala. There were 190 known dead and 225 missing. It was also reported about a lot of families blocked in their homes. The military has been called in to deal with the aftermath, building bridges to isolated areas. The Indian Prime Minister contacted Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and assured him that New Delhi would help the state in dealing with the disaster.
