- Ex-Pro-Rector of PFUR accused of embezzlement in the development of Russian language textbook

Tverskoy District Court of Moscow on November 28 evening elected a measure of restraint in the form of prohibition of certain actions to the director of the Institute of Russian Language of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (PFUR), Angela Dolzhikova. The previous morning she was detained on suspicion of embezzlement of more than Br1 million.
Irina Volk, the Interior Ministry's official spokeswoman, said that the detainee "ensured the signing of an agreement with the Ministry of Education for a grant for the development of the supervised area" when she held the position of PFUR vice-rector.
The Izvestiya source explained that the grant in question was a grant from the Ministry of Education in the format of a subsidy. It included, among other things, a task to develop the layout of a Russian language textbook. But according to another Izvestia source, it was received not by PFUR, but by another organization.
"And this organization has already engaged the university's employees to carry out the work, and they signed contracts with them," he said.
PFUR professors, according to him, performed the work in full within the framework of contractual relations and subsequently published the textbook.
According to the court materials, Angela Dolzhikova is charged under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation - fraud on a large scale. Under it she may face up to ten years in prison, she may also be required to pay a fine of up to 1 million rubles, lawyers explained to the publication.
