Rotavirus could be the cause of death of the guests of the social center in Altai


The cause of death of three residents of the social center "Rubicon" in Altai Krai could be poisoning as a result of rotavirus infection. This was reported on November 28 by the director of the center Alik Gelfenbein, specifying that the exact results of the tests taken will be known in a week.
"Now the doctors have said that it is a rotavirus infection. They have taken all the swabs, food samples, food products," TASS quoted him as saying.
According to Gelfenbein, health problems at the social center for rehabilitation of former convicts began a week ago. There were 28 guests in total, including pensioners, disabled and people of pre-retirement age.
"We [got] several people sick. First one - they called an ambulance, just gave him an injection, told him to treat, gave prescriptions. A few days later he got worse. We called the ambulance again, they told us they couldn't take him away. We left, and he died the next day," Gelfenbein said.
He noted that 16 guests are considered injured. According to the Ministry of Health of the Altai region, hospitalized 18 people.
Earlier, on November 28, it was reported that in Altai Krai three guests of a private social service center in the village of Kalistratikha Kalman district died, several more sought medical help. The Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee (ICS) of the Russian Federation for the region opened a criminal case on the indications of a crime under part 3 of article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Provision of services that do not meet the safety requirements of life and health of consumers, causing the death of two or more persons by negligence").
The officers of the authorities have seized items of significance for the investigation. Forensic medical and chemical examinations are being conducted to establish the causes of the tragedy.
