World number two, Polish tennis player Iga Schwentek is disqualified for one month because of a positive test for doping. This is reported on November 28 on the website of the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA).

It is noted that the athlete passed the sample during the out-of-competition period in August 2024, holding the title of the first racket of the world. Specialists found in the sample a minimum content of the banned substance trimetazidine.

Schwentek was able to prove that the doping had entered her system unintentionally. ITIA recognized that the source of trimetazidine was contaminated melatonin produced in Poland. The tennis player had been taking it for some time due to sleep problems caused by jet lag. Thus, the violation was not intentional.

Earlier, on October 2, Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic criticized the anti-doping system because of the case against the world's first racket player, Italian Yannick Cinner, who is accused of doping. The tennis player himself explained that the banned substance got into his system as a result of contamination by a member of the cheerleading squad. An independent tribunal found his explanation credible.

It was reported on August 20 that Cinner had tested positive twice at the Masters Series tournament in Indian Wells, USA, but avoided disqualification. He was suspended twice but successfully appealed the sanction on both occasions and continued to compete.
