The missing Canadian tourist Sam Benastick was found after 50 days of survival in the wilderness. This was reported on November 28 by the British newspaper The Guardian.

"20-year-old Sam Benastic was found <...> by two oil workers after getting lost in the wilderness of British Columbia," the publication reports.

The hiker, stranded in the Canadian wilderness, walked slowly, struggling to hold sticks in his frostbitten hands. He cut open a sleeping bag to wrap his legs around it and nearly fell when he was spotted. He was then taken to a hospital in Fort Nelson. The hiker was diagnosed with signs of frostbite and burn poisoning because his makeshift shelter had burned down.

Benastick had set out on a hike that was supposed to last 10 days on Oct. 7. His family reported him missing after he did not return home on Oct. 17.

More than 50 people were involved in the search. Dogs combed the area, but no leads were found. Temperatures began dropping to -20 degrees in the final days of the search, so it was called off. Benastik's mother refused to believe the worst and hoped for her son's return, Gazeta.ru adds.

The search and rescue service, which participated in the search along with crews from four other regions, called the fact that the tourist was found alive an incredible miracle.

Earlier, on October 15, an expert said that the man who survived after two months of drifting on a boat in the Sea of Okhotsk was helped by excess weight. In his opinion, the surviving crew member managed to escape because he had lipolysis - the process of fat destruction, during which the water associated with fat is released.
