British mercenary James Scott Rhys Anderson, who fought on the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and was captured by Russia in Kursk Region, has said that he regrets his decision. He said this to journalists on November 28, video c mercenary published by Izvestia.

"Many times. <...>I wish I hadn't done it," he said when asked if he regretted his decision to fight for the Ukrainian armed forces.

He said he hoped his family would see him on the news and realize he was OK. Anderson said he had previously served in the British Army as a communications officer, after which he was in charge of equipment at one of NATO's headquarters, and after his military service ended he went to work for the police, but was fired.

"Out of work, I didn't know what to do. I saw the news in the Western media and went. The pay is not very good - $400 a month. Unless you go on missions, it's $60 a day. But it's still a small amount of money," he said.

The criminal case against the mercenary was initiated and is being investigated by the Main Military Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.

Before that, on November 24, it became known that a mercenary from the UK was taken prisoner by the Russian military on the Kursk direction. The Foreign Minister of the United Kingdom David Lammy said the next day that the authorities would do everything possible to support him. On November 26, the Leninsky District Court of Kursk took Anderson into custody.

Ukrainian militants attacked Russian positions in border areas of Kursk Region on August 6. The situation in the region was recognized as a state of emergency of federal character. The operation to destroy the AFU continues.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
