A monument to Grandi the kangaroo killed by AFU shelling appeared in Belgorod zoo

The Belgorod zoo has erected a monument to Bennett's hand kangaroo named Grandi, who died in March when the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) shelled the city. This was reported by the Donetsk News Agency in its Telegram channel on November 28.
"Grandi. Bennett's friendly kangaroo. Died in the shelling in March 2024," reads the plaque on the monument.
Grandi lived at the zoo since 2019, was very contactable and loved to be petted. In the summer near the future monument planted grapes, which the kangaroo liked to eat most of all.
The monument can be touched. There is also an omen: if you make a wish by stroking Grandi's nose, it will come true.
The kangaroo died on March 19. That day the AFU shelled Belgorod with cluster munitions. The shells hit the exotarium and the aviary of Grandi, who was outside at the time of the attack. The zoo said that the kangaroo was brought to them from St. Petersburg and she was very special. In 2022, Grandi gave birth to kangaroo cubs.
The AFU is trying to strike Russian territories against the background of the special operation in Donbass, the start of which was announced by the Russian Federation on February 24, 2022. The decision to carry it out was taken amid the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
