- The doctor told about the development of skin diseases on the background of GI pathologies

There is an opinion that the appearance of many skin diseases, such as atopic dermatitis or psoriasis, is directly related to the dysfunction of the gastrointestinal tract. Olga Yevlasheva, a gastroenterologist at the SberZdorovye medical company, told Izvestia on November 30 about the impact of GI problems on skin diseases.
"Often in the development of various skin conditions, such as rosacea, acne, atopic dermatitis and psoriasis are "blamed" on disorders in the pancreas, liver, intestines or gallbladder," Evlasheva claims.
According to her, the skin is an independent organ, and the connection between diseases and the state of the digestive system is indirect, as the main factor in their occurrence is considered a genetic predisposition. Nevertheless, there are diseases that manifest themselves as rashes on the skin or mucous membranes, which can be directly related to diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. One such disease is Dühring's dermatitis herpetiformis - an inflammatory skin disease that is not related to the herpes virus, but in which there are also itchy vesicles characteristic of herpesvirus infection on the scalp, shoulders, elbows, buttocks and knees. The appearance of this pathology is associated with the presence of celiac disease, a disease of the small intestine in which the consumption of foods containing gluten triggers an immune response leading to damage to the intestinal villi.
"The development of Dühring's dermatitis herpetiformis is due to an immune response similar to that which occurs in the intestine. When gluten is consumed, the body begins to produce antibodies - defense cells to the barrier tissue of their own body, which covers the skin," - said the doctor.
Another pathology is aphthous stomatitis. This is an inflammatory disease characterized by the formation of painful ulcers on the mucous membrane of the mouth. Its occurrence is associated with the immune response of the body and can be provoked by conditions such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease - inflammatory bowel disease, which also manifests itself with abdominal pain and diarrhea.
"If any skin rashes appear, it is necessary to first consult a dermatologist - if gastrointestinal diseases are suspected, the doctor will refer the patient to a gastroenterologist. Depending on the indications, diagnosis may include blood tests, feces, abdominal ultrasound, EFGDS, as well as colonoscopy", - summarized Evlasheva.
Earlier, on November 27, Elena Grazhdankova, a dermatovenerologist at the Korolev branch of the Moscow Regional Clinical Skin and Venereological Dispensary, told Izvestia about the treatment of vesicular vesicles. The disease is associated with genetic predisposition and the impact of external factors: stress, medication, ultraviolet light, infections. However, it is often impossible to determine the specific provoking factor.
