Sales of Galaxy cars from Geely may start in Russia

Geely may start mass sales of Galaxy sub-brand cars in Russia. The Galaxy EX5 electric car has passed certification in the Russian Federation and received vehicle type approval (VTA), the China Cars portal reported on November 28.

According to the source, sales of the Galaxy EX5 crossover are planned to begin in Russia, but the timing of the model's entry into the market is still unknown. It is noted that in the second half of 2025, production of Galaxy EX5 is planned to start at the Belarusian plant "Belji".

In China, the EX5 model accounts for almost half of Galaxy sales, although there are four more models in the brand's lineup. The crossover is 4,615 mm long with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. The electric car is equipped with a 218-horsepower motor and two batteries to choose from (49.5 and 60.2 kWh), range on a single charge depending on the battery is 440 or 530 km on the CLTC cycle. In China, the Galaxy EX5 costs 109.8-145.8 thousand yuan (1.65-2 million rubles at the current exchange rate).

Earlier in the day it was reported that St. Petersburg Automobile Plant AGR, formerly owned by Hyundai, is preparing to start assembling cars of the Chinese brand Jaecoo. On the eve of the fact that the AGR Automobile Plant plans to launch a new line of cars together with the eastern partner, said Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Industrial Policy, Innovation and Trade of St. Petersburg Alexei Yakovlev.

On November 27, it became known that the restart of the former Toyota plant in St. Petersburg will not take place in 2024, as previously announced. The agreement on plans to launch production of premium cars on the site of the former Toyota plant in 2024 was signed by the Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov and CEO of Aurus Andrei Pankov at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
