Economist predicts hard winter in Ukraine


The upcoming winter in Ukraine will be hard, given the destruction in the energy infrastructure, a leading expert of the Political Technologies Center, Nikita Maslennikov, told Izvestiya on 28 November. He also noted that the country is in a deep economic crisis.
"The energy infrastructure, if not completely, then almost 80% destroyed, and this is the most important thing for life support, so the winter will be very hard, very difficult," the expert said.
At the same time, he drew attention to the fact that the country is more or less working defense, repair enterprises, food industry, services on services. Nevertheless, there are financial and economic crises, as well as a significant increase in public debt.
Earlier, on October 30, Maxim Chirkov, associate professor of the Department of Economic Policy and Economic Measurements at the State University of Ukraine, told Izvestia that the consequences of the growth of Ukraine's public debt for the country would be catastrophic. He specified that the state in its current state is no longer able to service such a level of public debt. At the same time, according to him, the situation for the Ukrainian economy is maximally negative and Ukraine is not viable as an economic entity.
