Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed Maxim Zhuk as Moscow prosecutor. The corresponding decree was published on Thursday, November 28, on the official portal of legal information.

"To appoint Maxim Sergeevich Zhuk as Moscow city prosecutor for a five-year term, relieving him of his position," the document says.

The president also appointed Sergei Safin as southern transport prosecutor for a five-year term, Gennady Kruk as Moscow interregional transport prosecutor, Vitaly Stepanov as prosecutor of the Khabarovsk region, Pavel Khlebkovich as prosecutor of the Tver region and Kliment Yurzditsky as prosecutor of the Yaroslavl region. The decree enters into force from the day of its signing.

In 2019-2024, the position of the capital's prosecutor was held by Denis Popov. Since August 2024, these duties were temporarily performed by Sergei Savenkov.

Zhuk previously worked as an investigator, held senior positions in the prosecutor's office of Krasnodar Krai and headed the prosecutor's offices of Sevastopol and Tver region. He was awarded the medal of the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland" of the second degree.

Earlier, on April 8, Putin signed a decree appointing Andrei Popov as military prosecutor of the Moscow Military District. The man was relieved of his previous post and assumed a new one for a period of five years.
