First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Science and Higher Education Alexander Mazhuga presented a rating of regional measures to support young scientists. It was announced on November 28 at the Congress of Young Scientists in the educational center "Sirius" in Sochi during the expert session "Grants and talents: how regions support science".

"We evaluated the measures of support for young scientists, which were provided exclusively by the regions. And we did not take into account programs at the expense of the federal budget," Mazhuga told Izvestia.

According to him, in addition to analytics, the rating is necessary to encourage regions to develop approaches to the formation of an attractive environment for the life and work of young researchers.

According to the results of the research, 82% of regions pay great attention to scientific and technological development, creating comfortable conditions for young scientists.

They implement their own grant and housing programs. In last year's rating such regions accounted for 70%.

The Bryansk, Belgorod, Rostov, Tambov, Tyumen and Tomsk Regions, as well as the Republics of Bashkortostan and Tatarstan, became the "youngest" regions in terms of the number of scientists under the age of 40.

The best conditions for providing preferential housing or mortgage programs for young scientists are in Bashkortostan.

"The leaders in the best programs of grant support for research are Krasnodar and Krasnoyarsk Krai, Bashkortostan and Tatarstan, Samara and Sverdlovsk regions," said Mazhuga.

According to the total sum of points, the first five places in the rating were taken by Bashkortostan, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, Primorsky, Krasnoyarsky and Krasnodar Krai.

On the eve it became known that more than 7 thousand participants arrived at the Congress of young scientists in the educational center "Sirius" in Sochi and presented their scientific projects. Participants of the event told "Izvestia" about their ideas and research.
