There were 237 traffic accidents in Russia over the past day

Over the past day on the Russian roads there were 237 accidents, in which 24 people were killed and 277 injured. This was reported to "Izvestia" on Thursday, November 28, in the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

As a result of 94 accidents, 52 of which occurred at crosswalks and 42 outside their zone of action, three pedestrians were killed, another 93 were injured of varying severity. Among the injured pedestrians were 18 children, 10 of whom were injured at crosswalks.

With the participation of buses on Wednesday, 23 accidents were recorded, in which two people were killed and 32 were injured. The cause of six accidents with buses was violation of traffic rules by their drivers. With the participation of minors 27 accidents were registered, as a result of which there were no children killed, 27 young road users were injured, including nine passengers.

Thus, in the Leningrad region, on a regional road during a snowfall, the driver of an intercity bus carrying 10 passengers drove off the road and overturned. As a result of the accident, three passengers of the bus were hospitalized with injuries, six more people, including a 15-year-old teenager, were injured and after medical treatment were sent for outpatient treatment. In addition, also in the Leningrad region on the regional highway the driver of "UAZ Patriot", despite the prohibited traffic signal, drove into a railroad crossing, where he collided with a suburban electric train. The driver of the car died.

"Passing through railroad tracks is a dangerous maneuver that requires the driver's concentration and maximum attention. Trying to win a few seconds, some motorists take unjustified risks and end up losing their lives, endangering the life and health of their passengers, as well as passengers of trains and electric trains, railroad workers," said "Izvestia" deputy head of the department of propaganda of the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, police colonel Anton Belan.

When approaching a railroad crossing, the driver must be guided by the requirements of road signs, traffic lights, markings, the position of the barrier, the instructions of the duty officer at the crossing and make sure there is no approaching train. In the traffic rules there is a prohibition to drive on the railroad crossing outside the crossing. The maneuver is impossible when the barrier is closed or closing or at a prohibitive signal of traffic lights or crossing duty officer, noted in the State Traffic Inspectorate.

In the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania due to deteriorating weather conditions in the neighboring country temporarily stopped traffic on the federal highway A-161 "Vladikavkaz - Nizhny Lars - the border with the Republic of Georgia" in the direction of exit from the Russian Federation.

In Khabarovsk Krai due to snowfall the traffic for buses and trucks on the federal highway A-376 "Khabarovsk - Lidoga - Vanino - Komsomolsk-on-Amur" from 214 km to 533 km and on eight sections of regional highways is temporarily restricted. In the Irkutsk Oblast, due to snowstorms, the movement of buses and trucks was also restricted on a 60-kilometer section of the federal highway R-258 "Baikal" (Irkutsk - Ulan-Ude - Chita).

When planning long-distance trips in these regions the State Automobile Inspectorate recommends to get acquainted with the operational information concerning changes in the organization of traffic. In case of introduction of traffic restrictions or closure of road sections due to deteriorating weather conditions, the relevant information is promptly placed in the media, on the website of the State Automobile Inspectorate, as well as on the official pages of the departments of the service in social networks.

Earlier in the day it became known that the amendments providing for an increase in fines for traffic violations, came to the State Duma. As reported "Vedomosti", fines for violation of a number of traffic rules may increase in Russia from January 1, 2025.
