The arrival of US President-elect Donald Trump to power is fraught with problems for the European Union (EU) in the energy sector, including pricing. The corresponding appeal to the French government was sent by a member of the country's Parliament, Christophe Blanchet.

He recalled that Trump has announced that he wants to increase liquefied natural gas (LNG) export capacity while significantly developing the US nuclear industry.

"The White House recently announced a plan to increase the United States' nuclear capacity by 3 times by 2050. In addition, candidate Donald Trump announced extraterritorial measures during his campaign to impose sanctions on the French nuclear sector," Lenta.Ru quoted the MP as saying.

Blanchet noted, citing the latest Eurostat statistics, that France is 52% dependent on energy imports, while the European Union is 62% dependent on energy imports.

"This energy dependence puts France and the EU in a very weak position in relation to Russia and the United States, which can thus take advantage of this position of energy suppliers to influence the political life of consumer countries," he emphasized.

He added that the low cost of energy is not only a strategic problem in a global economic war, but also a sovereignty issue.

The day before Bloomberg reported that Europe is expected to experience the coldest winter since the refusal of European countries from gas from Russia, due to which energy prices will rise. Also, such weather conditions will lead to increased energy risks, RT reported.

According to the meteorologist of Maxar Technologies Inc. company, Matthew Dross, low temperatures can be expected even in the south of Europe, for example, in Italy or the Balkans. "Mild" conditions are expected in northern and central European parts, 360.ru reports.

Earlier, on November 23, Bloomberg reported that rapidly dwindling gas reserves and the withdrawal of supplies from Russia are creating preconditions for a new energy crisis in Europe, which is still not recovered from the strongest shocks of two years ago.

Before that, in October, Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller said at a plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum that Europe's gas market policy could lead to a new gas price shock and supply disruptions. He called the situation on the European gas market bad and agreed with the assessment that the demand for energy resources there is being destroyed purposefully.

Europe has repeatedly pointed out the difficulties in the gas sector. For example, on August 13, the Austrian Energy Ministry warned that "huge risks" await the country if Russia completely stops supplying its gas to the European Union (EU).

Despite the fact that gas from Russia is in demand on the European market, some Western countries decided to reduce their dependence on energy resources against the background of Russia's special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022. However, after that, the energy crisis in many EU countries worsened.
