It is possible that in the near future people under 60 years of age will be considered young people, given the increase in life expectancy. This opinion was expressed on November 28 by the head of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA) of the Russian Federation Veronika Skvortsova at the session of the Congress of Young Scientists "Youth in Science: Building a Technological Future".

"If we take the WHO (World Health Organization. - Ed.) classification, a young person is up to 45 years old. I think so, taking into account the increase in life expectancy, soon it will be up to 60. These will be all young people, because the age periods are changing," - said the specialist.

Currently, WHO classifies human age as follows: people up to 44 years old are considered young age, from 45 to 59 years old - middle age, people from 60 to 74 years old are considered elderly, from 75 to 90 years old - old age, over 90 years old - longevity.

Earlier, on October 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the plenary session of the congress "National Health Care" that Russia will increase the sustainability and independence of its health care system. The head of state reminded that next year the country will start implementing such national projects as "Long and Active Life" and "New Technologies of Health Saving".

Putin announcedthe launch of five new national projectsin Russia to improve the lives of Russians, including the "Long and Active Life" project, in February during his address to the Federal Assembly.

Before that, on June 7, Deputy Mayor of the capital Anastasia Rakova told the Izvestia studio at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2024) that Moscow is among the top three Russian regions in terms of life expectancy, along with Ingushetia and a number of regions of the Southern Federal District, for which longevity is traditional. She noted that there are now about a thousand citizens in the capital who are over 100 years old.
