TheUSA is the main supplier of aid to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), and Kiev is very dependent on it. This was reported by Bloomberg on Thursday, November 28.

The piece notes that European leaders provide Kiev with most of its financial aid, but it is Washington that remains the "largest military donor."

Bloomberg points out that Ukraine's switch to Western arms has led to dependence on the U.S. for ammunition supplies, especially for small arms and artillery. Most of Ukraine's armaments (80 percent of its surface-to-surface missiles, 50 percent of its anti-tank missiles, and 33 percent of its air defense systems) come from the United States. HIMARS and M777 howitzers are key elements of Ukraine's artillery, according to the authors.

According to the agency, Europe will have to increase its military aid after newly-elected U.S. leader Donald Trump comes to power because the 47th U.S. president's peace plan could change the current trends in Washington's aid to Kiev.

Earlier in the day, Reuters reported that the administration of current US President Joe Biden is developing a new aid package to Ukraine for $725 million, within which it plans to provide various anti-tank weapons from the US stockpile.

The day before, it became known that Joe Biden had asked Congress to allocate $24bn to Ukraine to strengthen its military potential and replenish America's emptied stocks.

On November 13, White House adviser Jake Sullivan said that Biden would ask Congress for additional funds to support Ukraine before leaving office.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine amid Russia's special operation to protect Donbass, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
