LIFE doc's editorial staff released a movie from the "New World" series dedicated to the friendship between Russia and Egypt. The film reveals historical, cultural, economic and personal ties between the countries in different historical eras, including large-scale joint projects - both cultural and political - and initiatives aimed at strengthening the multipolar world.

Historical basis of cooperation
Egypt became an important partner of Russia as early as the mid-20th century. The Soviet Union influenced the country's development by facilitating the nationalization of the Suez Canal and building the Aswan Hydroelectric Power Plant, Egypt's key infrastructure facility.

Today, cooperation continues in a new large-scale project - the creation of Egypt's first nuclear power plant, El Dabaa.

Economy and trade: a new level of cooperation
Modern Russian-Egyptian relations cover many areas - from tourism to educational programs.

The film notes the confidence of the Russian Export Center that by 2030 the supported volume of foreign trade deals will reach $1 billion.

Tourism also remains an important part of the partnership. More than 1.5 million Russian tourists visited Egypt in 2023, making Russia one of the leaders in terms of vacationers.

Culture and archaeology: common achievements
Cultural exchange also strengthens the friendship between the two countries. A bust of Pushkin has been erected in Cairo, and a monument to Peter the Great is scheduled to be unveiled in Alexandria. In Russia, in turn, monuments to Egyptian figures adorn universities and public spaces.

The future of partnership
The film highlights key areas of cooperation, from the joint construction of an industrial zone in the Suez Canal to educational programs for Egyptian students at Russian universities. For example, the Russian government has allocated quotas for 318 Egyptian students for the 2024/25 academic year.

At the BRICS summit, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi noted the importance of stabilizing relations with Russia: "We support the expansion of BRICS, which is becoming a platform to counter the negative impact of the situation in the international arena."
