The Bars volunteer detachments have received heavy weapons. Colonel General Evgeny Burdinsky, Head of the Main Organizational and Mobilization Department (GOMU) of the General Staff of the Armed Forces (AF) of the Russian Federation, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, told about it in an interview to the magazine "Military Commissariats of Russia".

In order to increase the firepower of the squads, 2024 Bars volunteer formations were given howitzers, radio electronic warfare (REB) equipment, flamethrowers and all-terrain vehicles.

"A howitzer artillery group was included in the detachment; a group of electronic warfare and UAV countermeasures was included to combat enemy UAVs; and an engineer-sapper group was included to fulfill engineering support tasks," Burdinsky said.

The colonel-general added that the positions of UAV operators and flamethrowers equipped with the LPO-97 light infantry flamethrower were introduced to the fire support and reconnaissance groups, and motorized vehicles were introduced to enhance mobility.

Earlier, on November 16, the Russian Defense Ministry published footage of intensive combat training and training of personnel of the volunteer unit "Bars-Belgorod" at the training range.

On September 12, Deputy Defense Minister Colonel-General Yunus-Bek Yevkurov announced the beginning of the formation of the Bars unit in Belgorod, Bryansk and Kursk regions bordering Ukraine. He specified that the units together with law enforcement agencies under the conditions of counter-terrorist operation regime (CTO) will be engaged in protection and defense of civil infrastructure facilities, fighting against drones and maintaining public order.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the aggravated situation in the region.
