In addition to elevated blood glucose levels, there are other signs of diabetes: dry mouth, thirst, frequent urination, decreased vision, numbness of hands and feet. This was stated by endocrinologist of the Scandinavian Health Center Ekaterina Sakhnova on November 28.

The doctor said that the main risk factors for type II diabetes are heredity and excessive body weight. In the presence of these factors as a preventive measure recommended lifestyle modification to reduce weight.

The expert specifies that viral and infectious diseases that occur in the fall and winter period can provoke the development of type I diabetes, but it is rare. In turn, the occurrence or development of type II diabetes is not influenced by seasonality.

"The first test to clarify the presence of diabetes is a fasting venous plasma glucose study. In the vast majority of cases, if the level is normal (less than 6.1 mmol / l), any disorder of carbohydrate metabolism is excluded. As an additional method, for example, in patients with excess body weight or the presence of diabetes in relatives, you can examine the level of glycated hemoglobin or conduct an oral glucose tolerance test," - said Sakhnova in conversation with "Gazeta.Ru".

People with a predisposition to type II diabetes and excessive body weight should follow a diet, as well as increase physical activity to reduce weight and gain muscle mass, the doctor emphasized.

Earlier, on November 14, on World Diabetes Day, doctors of the medical company "SberZdorovye" endocrinologist Daria Pronina and surgeon Sergei Khripkov told "Izvestia" that one of the complications of diabetes - diabetic foot syndrome, which occurs in 15-25% of people with this disease. According to experts, to diagnose diabetic foot syndrome, doctors conduct an examination of the extremities. X-rays, CT scans or MRIs of the foot are used to detect bone abnormalities, and vascular ultrasound is performed to evaluate blood flow in the lower extremities.
