66 out of 68 victims in the case of the gas explosion in Stupino in April 2022 refused to file civil suits for compensation for damages, Izvestia found out. They believe that it will not be possible to recover money from the accused in the emergency Alexei Zarubin, as he worked as an ordinary blacksmith. But two more plaintiffs and local authorities will still try to recover damages from the defendant.
On April 11, 2022, there was a gas explosion in a five-storey building in Stupino near Moscow, apartments from the second to the fifth floor were destroyed. The damage was estimated at 630 million rubles. Six people died, including the wife and two children of Alexei Zarubin. According to the investigation, the night before the accident Alexei Zarubin, being under the influence of alcohol and drugs, quarreled with his wife, closed the window, plugged the hood with a child's blanket, opened all the taps on the gas stove, then flicked a lighter and ignited the whole kitchen.
When witnesses were interviewed, it turned out that Alexei Zarubin was addicted to alcohol and drugs. In the Moscow Regional Court on November 29 should be held a debate on the case, and after Zarubin may be sentenced on the same day.
