In Belgorod, doctors of the regional children's hospital have successfully performed surgery on a newborn baby with congenital diaphragmatic hernia. This was reported in the regional Ministry of Health on November 27.

It is specified that in this anomaly internal organs that should be in the abdominal cavity, moved to the chest and put pressure on the heart and lungs, because of which the baby needs urgent surgery. This is a very rare case, which occurs in one child out of 3 thousand newborns.

"Specialists at the regional clinical hospital successfully performed the operation, during which the herniated structures were moved into place and the defect in the diaphragm was sewn up," the press service informed the department's Telegram channel.

The Ministry of Health said that on the second day after birth the child was transferred from the regional perinatal center to the regional children's hospital, where he underwent surgery a day later.

"Currently, the child together with his mother is preparing for discharge home," - announced in the department.

Earlier, on November 20, doctors in St. Petersburg saved a pregnant woman from Tuva with pathology. Initially, the woman turned to doctors because of poor health after an acute respiratory infection, but the examination showed that she had a severe heart disease.
