- EU ambassadors support finalization of Romania and Bulgaria's entry into Schengen zone

EU ambassadors have supported the completion of the process of Romania and Bulgaria's entry into the Schengen zone from January 1. This was stated by European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ilva Johansson on Wednesday, November 27.
"Congratulations to the citizens of Bulgaria and Romania! You have waited so long! You belong to Schengen. And you should take full advantage of Schengen freedoms," she wrote on her X page.
Earlier, on December 31, 2023, the EU decided to abolish air and sea controls at internal borders between Bulgaria, Romania and Schengen countries from March 2024. At the same time, the issue of Schengen enlargement at the expense of these Balkan countries has been raised more than once in the EU.
Currently, 27 states are parties to the Schengen Agreement, where there is a unified border control system.
