Belarusian Foreign Minister expressed support for CSTO decisions

Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov said that Belarus, being the most ardent supporter of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), would support all the decisions to be put up for discussion. BelTA reported on November 27.

"We are keeping up with the times, and the organization is developing in the spirit of the times. Belarus is the most ardent supporter of this organization. We will support all the decisions to be put up for discussion and signing," he said.

According to Ryzhenkov, along with the decisions that will be made to strengthen and coordinate the actions of the rapid reaction forces, the agenda also includes documents aimed at preserving historical memory, issues of greater international positioning of the CSTO and decisions of personnel, budgetary nature, channeling funds for various project activities.

"A joint statement of the heads of state of a political nature will also be adopted.<...> It will be generally devoted to the international situation, touching upon painful hot spots on our planet - something that worries all our partners and that can actually have a direct impact on the development of our states," he concluded.

Earlier, on November 19, the UN General Assembly (GA) adopted a resolution on UN cooperation with the CSTO, in which it noted the role of the bloc in strengthening regional security. In addition, the two organizations will continue to work together to implement the UN global counter-terrorism strategy and will explore opportunities to enhance cooperation in the field of peacekeeping.

Prior to that, on November 13, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed with Tasmagambetov, ambassadors and permanent representatives of the organization the multifaceted interaction ahead of the meeting of the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers to be held in Astana on November 28. At the same time, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov met with the head of the bloc. The parties discussed military cooperation within the organization and prospects for its development.

The Collective Security Treaty Organization is a military-political alliance created by the CIS states to stabilize the situation in the partner countries. Six states are members of the CSTO: Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia and Tajikistan.
