Trump appoints Keith Kellogg as US special envoy for Ukraine

US President-elect Donald Trump said on November 27 that Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg, national security adviser to former Vice President Mike Pence, will become the special envoy for Ukraine in his administration.
"I am very pleased to nominate General Keith Kellogg to serve as Assistant to the President and Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
The Republican promised that together they would "bring peace through strength and make America and the world safe again."
That Kellogg was among the nominees for the post was reported by Reuters earlier in the day. However, another candidate was named as Trump's "favorite" - former acting director of US national intelligence Richard Grenell.
Journalists of the agency recalled that back in June, Kellogg presented a plan to resolve the situation in Ukraine, assuming the freezing of the front line.
Earlier, on November 13, Fox News TV channel reported that Trump should appoint a special envoy on Ukraine, which will initiate negotiations with Russia. Then, on Nov. 23, Reuters indicated that Trump began considering Grenell's nomination.
Prior to that, on November 10, Kellogg advised Trump to start restoring relations with Russia with negotiations rather than sanctions. He expressed the opinion that the best strategy for restoring the dialog between Washington and Moscow would be the tactic of "face-to-face meetings," and the new American leader should start by reaching out to "key leaders to find a way to solve problems."
The election for the 47th president of the United States took place on November 5. In the popular vote, Trump received 50% of the vote, while Democratic candidate Kamala Harris received 48.4%. Speaking to supporters afterward, the politician called his goal as head of state the end of military conflicts in the world.
