Kovalchuk noted the importance of the scientific and technological space of the Union State

Based on the current situation, the creation of a common scientific and technological space of the Union State and similar interaction between the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) are very important now. This was stated to Izvestia on November 27 by Mikhail Kovalchuk, President of the National Research Center (NRC) "Kurchatov Institute". Mikhail Kovalchuk.

"A very important detail is the Union State today. There is clearly an absolutely achieved level here: the heads of state, [Russian President Vladimir] Putin and [Belarusian President Alexander] Lukashenko signed, approved the strategy of scientific and technological development. This is the creation of a single scientific and technological space of the Union State," said Kovalchuk.

He admitted that this process is moving forward in a difficult and long way, because in the past the countries were "too separated." But now Russia and Belarus have become virtually one, as they have common tasks in the field of science.

"The memory of the past has not been lost, and it laid on the right ground. And now the same processes we must accurately carry out within the CIS. Within the framework of bilateral relations, for example, we are building them with Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan now," Kovalchuk added.

The head of the SIC "Kurchatov Institute" noted that Putin's visit to Kazakhstan will help the two states to integrate into the scientific industry, to remember old ties, which will be a huge increase in scientific potential.

Before that, on November 4, Kovalchuk told Izvestia that science has no borders, but the multipolarity of the world increases the number of countries involved in the scientific field, which contributes to its development. The head of SIC pointed out that it is very important to create a common scientific and technological space, and Russia has already started this work: first together with Belarus within the framework of the Union State, and now in the CIS and Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). The next step will be to build such cooperation with other countries within the BRICS framework.
