The results of the fifth independent all-Russian wine list award Russian Wine Awards (RWA) have been summarized. About 400 establishments took part in the competition this year, from Kaliningrad to Vladivostok.

The winners were chosen by an independent jury. It included, in particular, Denis Rudenko, judge of international wine competitions, experts Andrey Ushakov, Valeria Tenison and Angelika Subbotina, honored sommelier of Russia Artur Sarkisyan, as well as Vladislav Markin, member of the Russian Sommelier Association.

In addition to restaurants and wine bars, this year's participants included wineries. Maria Syukrina from Oltremare was recognized as the best sommelier in the end. In the special nomination "Wine Roads of Russia" the award was given to AYA Organic Vineyards from Sevastopol. The cards were also evaluated in the nominations "Best Wine Bar Card", "Best Wine by the Glass", "Best Classic Card", "Best National Cuisine Restaurant Card" and others.

According to Maria Goreslavskaya, one of the organizers of the award, the award started in 2017 "on enthusiasm alone," and the participants then were 200 restaurants from 16 cities. "We received a lot of positive feedback and decided to continue," she added.

Her colleague, Vlada Lesnichenko, in turn noted that "there are two important people in the restaurant: the chef and the sommelier." "From the very beginning, we were united in the choice of nominations: the best offer of Russian wines, classic and original list, glass offer. In 2018 there were more participants, in 2019 - even more," she told us.
