Moldova joins US sanctions against Rossiya Segodnya media group

Moldova has joined the US restrictive measures against the Rossiya Segodnya media group and the Eurasia non-profit organization. A publication in the official gazette of the government on Wednesday, November 27, shows that.
"Moldova joins the international restrictive measures established by unilateral decisions of the United States," the document reads.
The restrictions affected the Rossiya Segodnya International News Agency and the autonomous non-profit organization for the promotion of international cooperation Eurasia.
The US authorities imposed new sanctions on the Rossiya Segodnya media group and RT TV channel on September 13. The restrictions apply to Rossiya Segodnya, its CEO Dmitry Kiselyov, as well as RT's legal entity - the autonomous non-profit organization TV-Novosti. In addition, the non-profit organization Eurasia and its head Nelli Parutenko were also placed under sanctions.
On September 4, the U.S. Treasury Department imposed sanctions against RT TV channel, its editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan, another organization and nine individuals on charges of alleged "hostile influence" on the presidential elections in the country. The sanctions were also imposed against ANO Dialog and its CEO Vladimir Tabak.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova in the same month promised a sensitive response from Moscow to the United States sanctions against Russian journalists, which Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called a continuation of Washington's attempts to pressure Russia, its citizens and the media.
In addition, on November 27, the Russian First Channel reported that the German authorities had decided to close its German bureau. Commenting on this, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that in response to this measure by the German authorities, Russia was expelling two journalists of the German media group ARD.
