More than 7,000 participants arrived at the IV Congress of Young Scientists, which is being held at the federal territory of Sirius near Sochi, and presented their scientific projects. On November 27, participants of the event talked about their ideas and research.

The young scientists at the Congress are asking questions whose answers will be very important in the future, and their developments have the potential for scientific breakthroughs. One participant, Yura Melnikov, who is 14 years old, has come up with a way to fight plastic garbage: it can be fed to special white grubs.

"We will scale this in the formats of sea containers and in the formats of whole rooms, in which you can throw plastic and throw these larvae, forget about them for a month - and there is no plastic," - said Melnikov.

At the Congress they also discuss issues that sound complicated, but may affect everyone. For example, the participants touched upon the topic of gene therapy, which is applied in practice in different ways: it is possible to "repair" a damaged DNA section or replace it with a healthy copy that needs to be delivered to the body. In this branch of medicine there are new high-tech drugs that can fight a large number of diseases.

"To date <...> the drugs that are coming out, being developed within the framework of biotechnology, are diseases such as cancer, rare, orphan diseases, that is, genetically inherited diseases. But in principle, I believe that the classic, <...> mass diseases, socially significant <...>, will also sooner or later be recipients of such drugs," said Maria Vorontsova, deputy dean of Lomonosov Moscow State University's Faculty of Medicine for Science, Candidate of Medical Sciences, leading researcher of the "NMRC Endocrinology" of the Ministry of Health of Russia.

Biomedicine has already developed to a high level, and to work in it you need staff. Students of this industry are worked with to keep them in the profession, and for this purpose they came up with the so-called "career compass".

"We have operators, career counselors. They deliver information about seminars, lectures, tours. Not just throwing information, but seeing feedback," Vorontsova said.

In addition, the event will also present future projects, such as a quantum computer, which will help, for example, to solve problems in logistics, significantly speeding it up.

Mikhail Kovalchuk, President of the Kurchatov Institute Research and Development Center (RDC) Mikhail Kovalchuk, speaking at the Congress, noted that the most important strategic task of Russia today is the development of the Northern Sea Route.

The head of the Kurchatov Institute noted that the level of Russian science has reached those heights when the country is able to produce super strong, but at the same time very light materials.

Participants of the IV Congress of Young Scientists came from 60 different countries, and their joint work is capable of producing amazing results.

Earlier in the day, the Congress signed an agreement on the creation of a scientific and educational consortium. Kovalchuk pointed out that the emergence of such a network will be the foundation for future powerful technologies. The head of the Kurchatov Institute added that Russia should achieve technological leadership.
