- Austrian politician in the EP did not support the new European Commission headed by von der Leyen

Austrian politician Harald Wilimsky did not support the new composition of the European Commission (EC) headed by Ursula von der Leyen in the European Parliament (EP) on November 27. A video of his address was published on the YouTube channel FPÖ-TV.
"We do not fraternize with Ms. von der Leyen and her commission. We reject this commission, and not with a simple 'no,' not with a simple 'no,' not with a threefold 'no,' but with a fivefold 'no,'" he said.
Vilimski explained that the new commission, in his opinion, advocates mass migration, deprivation of freedom, incitement of war, deindustrialization and decline of Europe.
The politician also noted that the EU treaties provide for 18 European Commissioners, while a 27-member commission can only be approved with the unanimity of the Council. Approving such a number of people was not necessary, he added.
"You could save money, reduce bureaucracy, do away with your commissioners with their decorative departments and save that money for European citizens. That would be the right way. What you are doing is the wrong way," Vilimski addressed the parliament.
Earlier in the day, the European Parliament approved the new composition of the European Commission headed by Ursula von der Leyen. Kaja Kallas was appointed head of European diplomacy.
It was specified that the new commission was supported by 370 out of 688 deputies, 282 people voted against it, 36 abstained from voting. The new EC will begin work on December 1.
Prior to that, on November 20, Politico, citing officials, reported on the EP's approval of the entire composition of the new European Commission.
On September 19, Politico said that Ursula von der Leyen had significantly strengthened her position in the newly formed EC and gained full control over EU affairs. According to the authors of the article, von der Leyen has been working for several months to eliminate opposition within the commission. Her rivals include Thierry Breton, European Commissioner for Internal Market and Services.
