Against the backdrop of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' (AFU) failures on the front line and the general fatigue of Western countries' residents from supporting Kiev, foreign mass media have changed the tone of their news about the Ukrainian crisis. Political analyst Ivan Mezyukho pointed this out in a conversation with Izvestiya on Wednesday, November 27.

Earlier in the day, the Corriere della Sera newspaper published a story in which Italian mercenaries fighting for the Ukrainian Armed Forces shared that the units lacked everything they needed and that the Russian army had, among other things, taken over the dominance in the field of drones. In addition, The Economist reported on Wednesday, the Ukrainian army has lost up to 100,000 men since 2022, with about 400,000 more wounded and unable to continue fighting.

"At least four factors are contributing to the change in the tone of Western publications about Ukraine. First, the West is at a certain stage of indecision, due to the fact that it realizes the objective reality <...>. Second, Western society is tired of the Ukrainian issue. It is impossible to maintain the myth of Ukraine's alleged invincibility for so long. And in general, the world is much more complicated, and it is not limited only to the topic of Ukraine," Mezyukho commented.

The political analyst named the military defeats of the Ukrainian army as the third reason for the change in the mood of Western journalists, and the fourth reason - the successes of the Russian Federation. Thus, emphasized the interlocutor of the publication, even Russophobic media cannot ignore or deny the successes of the Armed Forces (AF) of the Russian Federation during the fulfillment of special operation tasks.

"The West in general is heading towards another stage of its internal turbulence. One way or another, it will have to focus on its internal issues in the near future, so the issues of combat operations will disengage both Western society and Western political elites," the expert predicted.

In his opinion, the US is currently very concerned about the strengthening of right-wing forces in Europe, as they are skeptical about anti-Russian policy to the detriment of national interests. In addition, representatives of the right-wing, if not positively disposed toward Russia, are ready to negotiate with Moscow. This is evident in Slovakia, Hungary and even Romania, Meziukho summarized.

The Guardian reported the day before that the UK Parliament called on the kingdom's Prime Minister Keir Starmer and US President Joe Biden to ensure negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. The politicians said that the British government should be held responsible for its actions and refuse to further escalate the conflict.

Earlier, on November 21, the British newspaper The Telegraph reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, whose term of office expired on May 20, had softened his rhetoric on the Ukrainian conflict after Republican Donald Trump's victory in the U.S. presidential election and abandoned "maximalist ambitions to defeat Russia on the battlefield."

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Kiev amid Russia's special operation to defend Donbass, which began on February 24, 2022. The decision to hold it was taken by the Russian president because of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to the increased shelling by Ukrainian troops.
