The WFGBK nominated Russian Sports Minister Degtyarev for the post of the ROC head

The All-Russian Canoe Sprint Federation has nominated Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev for the post of President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC). This is reported on Wednesday, November 27, on the website of the organization.

It is specified that the decision was made on the results of the vote of the presidium of the WFGBK, which was held on November 25.

"And unanimously accepted the proposal to nominate the candidacy of Degtyarev Mikhail Vladimirovich to the post of President of the All-Russian Union of Public Associations "Russian Olympic Committee", - stated on the website of the organization.

Earlier, on October 15, the head of the ROC Stanislav Pozdnyakov said that he was going to resign and expects that the executive committee of the organization will hold early elections of the leadership of the committee in December. The ROC president explained that his decision was due to geopolitical challenges, because of which Russian sport needs to be optimized.

Pozdnyakov is a four-time Olympic fencing champion. He became the first vice president of the ROC in 2016 and was elected head of the organization in May 2018. Pozdnyakov was re-elected for another term in 2022, with 247 delegates at the annual Olympic assembly voting in favor of his candidacy.
