Served 13 years for the murder, which he did not commit, a resident of Germany Manfred Genditsky demanded from the authorities € 750 thousand, the magazine Spiegel reported on Wednesday, November 27.

"The plaintiff demands appropriate compensation for pain and suffering, at least in the amount of €750 thousand," a spokesman for the Munich regional court told the publication.

In 2008, the man was accused of murdering an elderly woman he allegedly drowned in a bathtub in Rottach-Egern. He was convicted and spent more than 13 years in prison. He was acquitted in July 2023 after new forensic tests showed that the woman's death was an accident and not murder.

The piece notes that in September 2023, Genditsky received compensation of €368.7 thousand (€75 for each day of imprisonment). However, he and his lawyer consider the amount insufficient and will seek to increase it.

Earlier in the day it was reported that the jury in the U.S. state of Massachusetts found not guilty 64-year-old Michael Sullivan, who spent 26 years in prison on false charges of murder. It is noted that during the man's imprisonment, his mother and four siblings died. In addition, he was unable to adjust to the changed world, has no education and no steady job, also does not know how to use a computer. Since his release, Sullivan has settled in another sister's house and spends most of his time with his dog and pigeons.
