Ukraine nominates Trump for Nobel Peace Prize

The head of the Ukrainian parliamentary committee for foreign policy and interparliamentary cooperation, Oleksandr Merezhko, has suggested that US President-elect Donald Trump be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. This was reported on November 26 by The Kyiv Independent with reference to the deputy's letter addressed to the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
"I am convinced that Trump has made a significant contribution to world peace and that he can do even more in the future," Merezhko wrote.
The MP said the Republican had laid the foundations of international support for Ukraine and demonstrated world leadership in supplying it with weapons.
Merezhko cited the opportunity to get the attention of the U.S. president-elect to help Ukraine as the motivation behind his proposal.
"In his attempts to stop <conflict in Ukraine> [Trump] will seek a solution based on international law, including such principles as territorial integrity, respect for Ukraine's sovereignty and non-use of force," he said.
Earlier on Nov. 7, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said Minsk would nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize if he stopped all wars.
The election of the 47th American leader took place on November 5. In the national vote, Trump received 51% of the vote, while Democratic candidate Kamala Harris received 47.4%. The next day, the politician, speaking to supporters, called himself the 47th President of the United States and said that his goal as head of state considers the cessation of military conflicts in the world.
At the same time, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov pointed out that the U.S. is able to contribute to the end of the conflict in Ukraine, as it is they who are fomenting it.
Before that, on January 30, the American TV channel Fox News reported that Donald Trump was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for helping to sign the so-called Abraham Accords in 2020-2021, which involves the normalization of Israel's relations with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan.
