Russia will respond to the closure of Channel One's bureau in Germany. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko told reporters on November 27.

"We have a negative attitude. This is a gross violation of all fundamental principles of international communication, which includes respect for freedom of speech and the right of access to information," Grushko said.

The deputy minister called the closure of the bureau another unfriendly move by Berlin. The Ministry will continue to fight for the rights of Russian journalists and use all means necessary for this purpose. If this does not bring results, Russia will have to reciprocate Germany's actions.

Earlier in the day, Channel One reported that the German authorities had decided to close its German bureau. Employees were ordered to leave the country. The FRG's decision was motivated by "security policy interests." The state authorities told Channel One that it allegedly "influences" the Russian-speaking population of Germany and threatens public order and the security of the country and the European Union (EU).

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, commenting on this, said that Russia would take retaliatory measures.

Before that, in September, the US imposed sanctions on the Rossiya Segodnya media group, RT TV channel and their management. In addition, the restrictions affected the non-profit organization (NPO) "Eurasia", the autonomous non-profit organization (ANO) "Dialogue" and their heads Nelli Parutenko and Vladimir Tabak.

Zakharova promised a sensitive response to these sanctions. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called these restrictions a continuation of the US attempts to put pressure on Russia, its citizens and the media.
