The restart of the former Toyota plant in St. Petersburg will not take place in 2024, as it was announced earlier. The information about the postponement was confirmed by Alexey Yakovlev, deputy head of the St. Petersburg Committee for Industrial Policy, Innovations and Trade.

"There is a month left until the new year. In all probability, the plant will not be launched this year," Yakovlev said at the Russian Industrialist forum, TASS reported on November 27.

The former Toyota plant, which has been idle since March 2022, is located in St. Petersburg's Shushary. Before that, the assembly site operated for 15 years, it was the first automobile assembly plant in St. Petersburg. The plant assembled Camry and RAV4 models, its capacity allowed to produce up to 100 thousand cars per year. The closure of the plant became known in September 2022.

On June 6, it was reported that an agreement on plans to launch production of premium cars on the site of the former Toyota plant was signed by St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov and Aurus CEO Andrei Pankov at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
