A new Chinese car plant may appear in Siberia

A new plant for the production of Chinese cars may appear in Russia. A Chinese car company is considering Novosibirsk and Irkutsk regions as a site for the plant. This was told by the Chairman of the Russian-Asian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RASPP) Vitaly Mankevich, reports November 27 "Finmarket".
"Now there is a discussion on the creation of a plant of one Chinese automobile company together with Rostec," Mankevich said on the sidelines of the GlobalSibExpo - China 2024 motor transport, logistics and engineering forum in Novosibirsk.
The head of RASPP did not specify which Chinese company is in question. According to him, it is planned to start construction of the plant in the second half of 2025 or in early 2026. After the visit of the head of Rostec Sergey Chemezov to China, the Novosibirsk region was considered for the location of the plant, while the Irkutsk region is an alternative option. Also, noted Mankevich, the federal authorities and Russian business are interested in the construction of a hub in the Novosibirsk region for the sale of Chinese auto parts.
Now the only highly localized Chinese automaker in Russia is Great Wall Motor, which produces Haval cars at a plant in the Tula region under the SPIK with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.
On November 25, it was reported that by the end of 2024, sales of Chinese cars in Russia for the first time in the history of the domestic car market may reach 1 million units. Thus, already for ten months in the country were sold 789.3 thousand cars and light commercial vehicles brands from China.
In October 2024, Russians purchased 605.3 thousand passenger cars with mileage. This is 14.3% more than a month earlier and 23.8% higher than the result of October last year. The most popular model among passenger cars with used cars in October was the sedan Lada 2107, and this is the ninth month in a row. In mid-autumn, Russian residents bought 14.3 thousand VAZ "sevens".
