Auto expert dispels myths about fast rusting Chinese cars

Modern Chinese cars, contrary to a common misconception, do not rot in the first year and do not "blossom with bugs" from a small chip. This was stated by Alexander Smith, the owner of the Carbase network of detailing centers, reports "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" on November 27.

As the specialist explained, cars from China, which were imported to Russia about 10 years ago, were characterized by a weak body and poor protection against corrosion. These are, for example, sedans and crossovers of brands Lifan, Chery, Geely and Brilliance 2008-2012. However, modern models are better prepared for Russian conditions, he pointed out.

The thickness of paintwork in Chinese cars is practically the same as in other, including European, models, the expert said. In cars from China, the layer of paint and varnish is 100-150 microns, and the paint is applied at the factories by the same robots and the same technologies that are used at assembly sites in Europe. For example, Japanese cars have even thinner layers of paint and varnish than modern "Chinese" cars, the expert noted.

However, budget brands, such as Kaiyi or BAIC, as well as affordable models of Changan, only some parts are galvanized (or this type of protection is completely absent). The Geely Coolray crossover has galvanized fenders, doors and door openings, but the trunk opening, roof and hood have no such protection. The front end and roof are also not galvanized in Omoda C5 and S5, Chery Tiggo 4 and Changan CS35 crossovers, Smith said.

On November 25, car service experts said that drivers of Chinese cars are most often bothered by failures of multimedia systems, touch screens, parktronic, radar, rearview cameras and climate control systems. There is also a gradual increase in the number of visits for oil changes, tire service and other minor repairs.
