The exhibition "Unknown Shchukin. Not Only New Art" opened at the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts with the support of VTB Bank. It will last until March 16, 2025, said the press service of the cultural institution.

The exposition is presented as a journey through civilizations and countries: Ancient Egypt, China and Japan, Europe of the Baroque era, the heritage of Russian estate and religious culture of the XVII-XIX centuries.

"Sergei Ivanovich Shchukin's collection of new art is highly valued throughout the world. However, among his treasures were also those exhibits that had not been previously presented to the public. The exhibition allows us to reconstruct the legacy of the famous patron of the arts and look at selected art objects through the prism of his personality. This year we are pleased to once again support an exhibition dedicated to a dynasty of great Moscow collectors. We congratulate our long-standing partner, the Pushkin Museum, on the realization of such a large-scale exhibition project and invite the Bank's customers to be among the first to visit the exposition," said Natalia Kochneva, Senior Vice President of VTB.

Visitors will see both famous paintings by Cézanne, Matisse and Derain and little-known artifacts of other cultures and civilizations, elements of the interiors of the Shchukin family mansion.

"This exhibition is a collection of discoveries. As it turned out, the house of Sergei Shchukin was a real treasury of artifacts of world civilizations. The oldest monuments in the Shchukin mansion are more than two millennia old," said Alexei Petukhov, curator of the exhibition.

According to him, the subjects of the exposition emphasize the extraordinary approach of Shchukin and his family to art. "The exhibition can be compared to a series of adventurous novels that come out under similar covers but are designed differently," he added.

The project gathered exhibits from several Russian museums, including the Tretyakov Gallery, the Hermitage and the Moscow Kremlin Museum. Some of the works were brought from regional collections.
