Russia's SVR reported the beginning of US promotion of pro-Western parties in Armenia

TheUnited States has started to promote pro-Western parties in Armenia in order to enter the parliament in the 2026 elections in the republic. This was reported by Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service on November 27.

"These "uncompromising adherents of democracy" are tasked with "beating the Armenian executive branch" if it, following the example of the government of neighboring Georgia, intends to give priority to the objective national interests, traditions and values of the Armenian people," the agency said.

According to the Russian SVR, the U.S. intends to completely subjugate Armenia. Nevertheless, similar practices in other countries and regions have shown their destructive nature, for example, in the Middle East, Latin America and Africa. In addition, the current situation in Ukraine is a vivid confirmation of this.

In June, Armenia and the United States signed an agreement on strengthening security cooperation. In July, Yerevan hosted a joint exercise between the U.S. and Armenian Armed Forces (AF) Eagle Partner 2024.

Later, on September 13, U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a telephone conversation discussed the expansion of bilateral relations, including in the spheres of energy, trade and investment. In addition, the U.S. Secretary of State assured Pashinyan of the United States' commitment to support prosperity and democratic processes in Armenia.

On September 20, Pashinyan spoke about the importance of U.S. support for the implementation of institutional reforms and democracy in the country. It was noted that funding for the U.S. Agency for International Development will be increased for this purpose.

On November 7, it was reported that the U.S. State Department has intensified the influence of pro-Western structures on the Armenian political elite in order to accelerate the process of Yerevan's reorientation. The USA is trying to impose a pro-Western path of development on Armenia by means of schemes that have already been tried out in Ukraine and Moldova.
