- Political analyst pointed out Israel's lack of meaningful achievements in the conflict with Hezbollah

There is a high probability that Israel and Lebanon will come to an agreement on the withdrawal of troops. Political scientist and orientalist Nizar Farsakh told Izvestia on November 27.
"Israel will retreat to the Blue Line, south of the Lebanese border, and Hezbollah will withdraw its military from the area south of Litani," the expert suggested.
He specified that although the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has succeeded in eliminating the political and military leadership of the Shiite Hezbollah movement, its troops have faced great difficulties.
"They did not advance more than 5 kilometers and suffered heavy losses, including among elite troops," Farsakh said.
Israel knows that it will not be able to achieve goals that look like victory anytime soon, the political analyst noted. He believes that for this reason Israel wants to cash in on the victory it already has - the killing of most of Hezbollah's leadership.
The expert also suggested that Iran pushed Hezbollah to agree to a ceasefire.
"The administration of [ U.S. President Joe] Biden has not so publicly, but also seems to have put pressure on [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu, including by delaying the delivery of some weapons," Farsakh said.
The day before, Netanyahu thanked Biden during a telephone conversation for his help in concluding a ceasefire agreement in Lebanon.
Earlier on Nov. 25, it was reported that Israel's prime minister tentatively approved a possible agreement that seeks a cease-fire between the Israel Defense Forces and Lebanon's Hezbollah movement.
In early November, Lebanon's acting Prime Minister Najib Mikati described the resumption of attacks as Israel's abandonment of the peace initiative. He emphasized that Israel's repeated threats "confirm the disregard for all efforts made to secure a ceasefire."
The escalation of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah came after the events of September 17 and 18, when thousands of people, including employees of the movement, were injured when pagers and other communication devices exploded in Lebanon. The country blamed Tel Aviv for what happened. Since then, Israel has continued to eliminate the leadership of the Shiite movement and strike Lebanese territory.
The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas subjected the territory of Israel to a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
