Putin officially established Marine Corps Day on Nov. 27

Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered to establish Marine Corps Day. This became known from the presidential decree, published on November 27 on the official Internet portal of legal information.
It is specified that the holiday dedicated to the subdivision of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will be celebrated on November 27.
Changes are made to the presidential decree "On the establishment of professional holidays and memorable days in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation".
Marine infantry are highly mobile units of the Russian Navy, which are designed to participate in combat operations as part of sea, air-sea and airborne assaults. They also provide defense of naval bases, islands, important coastal points and fleet basing sites.
Earlier, on October 1, Russia celebrated the Day of Ground Forces. The Day of Ground Forces was established by the decree of the Russian President in 2006 together with other professional holidays of the Russian Armed Forces. The date was not chosen by chance - on October 1 (old style), 1550 Ivan the Terrible issued a decree, according to which in Moscow and adjacent counties should be placed "selected thousand of servants" who would protect the territories entrusted to them.
