Russian Navy Commander-in-Chief congratulates marines on their professional holiday

Admiral Alexander Moiseyev, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, has congratulated servicemen on Marine Corps Day. The Russian Defense Ministry published Moiseyev's congratulatory message on November 27.
"Comrades sailors, sergeants and petty officers, warrant officers and midshipmen, officers and generals! Dear veterans of the Marine Corps! I congratulate you on the 319th anniversary of the formation of the Russian Marine Corps," he said in his telegram.
In his congratulatory speech, the admiral noted that the history of the Marine Corps is inextricably linked to significant accomplishments for the benefit of the motherland.
"The history of the Marine Infantry is inextricably linked with the name and great accomplishments of Emperor Peter the Great, by whose decree on November 16 (old style) 1705 regiments of sea soldiers were formed," the commander-in-chief added.
Moiseyev also noted the high level of skill, training and professionalism, which the marines of the Russian Navy demonstrated during the operation to free 23 crew members of the tanker "Moscow University", seized by Somali pirates.
The admiral emphasized the high level of skill of the Marines during the special military operation (SMO).
"The persistent battles of the "black berets" on the Kiev, Ugledar, Donetsk, Avdeev, Kursk directions, examples of bravery shown in fierce battles during the liberation of Mariupol, Volnovakha, Popasnaya, Pavlovka, other cities and towns are forever inscribed in the combat annals of Russia," Moiseyev said.
In addition, the commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy drew attention to the awards received by the marines.
"For bravery and heroism shown during the special military operation, more than 20 thousand servicemen were awarded state awards and insignia, 26 marines were awarded the title Hero of Russia," he specified.
On November 27, Russia celebrates Marine Corps Day, a professional holiday of soldiers who take part in sea landings and protect important military facilities on the coast. The holiday was established in 1996 by the decree of the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy. The date was not chosen by chance - on November 27, 1705 Peter the Great issued a decree on the creation of the country's first "regiment of sea soldiers". The tsar adopted the practice of sea landing from the British and successfully used it during the Northern War of 1700-1721. Since then, the marines have become an integral part of the Russian Navy.
