US President Joe Biden has asked Congress to allocate $24bn to Ukraine to strengthen its military potential and replenish America's depleted reserves. This became known on November 26 from the New York Post (NYP).

The Politico publication received a document from the White House Office of Administration and Budget, which says that the US Congress could include renewed aid to Kiev in its decision to avert a government shutdown next month.

According to the provided report, about $8bn could be allocated for security assistance and to finance contracts of US companies to arm Ukraine, as well as another $16bn to replenish the US stockpile.

Earlier, on November 27, it became known that Italy had started preparing a new package of military aid to Kiev.

Prior to that, on 25 November, the Italian Foreign Ministry said that it had decided not to send military personnel to Ukraine. According to Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, Italy will not send any military personnel to Ukraine.

On that day, Le Monde reported about the renewed discussions in Europe about sending troops to Ukraine. According to the newspaper, these discussions have even "strengthened" in recent weeks, particularly thanks to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's visit to France on Nov. 11.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine amid Russia's special operation to defend Donbas, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
